House arrest：本宅軟禁

智利前獨(dú)裁者奧格斯托·皮諾切特近日被指控在其執(zhí)政期間曾綁架九名政見相左者并殺害了其中一人。目前智利法庭已宣布對(duì)皮諾切特實(shí)行（本宅）軟禁，但他的辯護(hù)律師積極上訴。外電報(bào)道如下：A judge has indicted General Augusto Pinochet for the kidnapping of nine dissidents and the killing of one of them during his 1973-90 military regime, and placed the former dictator under house arrest.

Pinochet's defense, however, has quickly filed an injunction with the Santiago Court of Appeals, effectively freezing the house arrest order until the court rules on it, probably Tuesday or Wednesday.

"Gen. Pinochet has been declared mentally competent to face a criminal trial in Chile," Judge Juan Guzman ruled, reversing a previous court decision that exempted Pinochet from trial because of his poor health.

House arrest是一個(gè)法律術(shù)語(yǔ)，表示“（本宅）軟禁”，即囚禁某人于自己的住所，例如：a prisoner under house arrest（被軟禁于家中的囚犯）。

皮諾切特在1973-1990年期間擔(dān)任智利總統(tǒng)，在他執(zhí)政期間，超過三千人死亡或者神秘失蹤，上萬(wàn)人流亡國(guó)外。由于涉嫌在執(zhí)政期間肆意踐踏人權(quán)，“劊子手”皮諾切特遭到千夫所指，但皮諾切特是終生議員，享有豁免權(quán)，因此無(wú)法對(duì)他進(jìn)行起訴，正因如此，要求剝奪他豁免權(quán)的呼聲一直很高。也有一些人對(duì)皮諾切特表示支持，稱他使智利的經(jīng)濟(jì)得到空前的發(fā)展。
